After a hectic week in school, many head home or back to their halls for a well-deserved break from the drudgery of formulas and what not. Well, not me! Actually, why I look forward to the end of Fridays, is not only to get out of the last incomprehensible lecture, but because I get to go to cell and get refreshed! haha it may sound really cliche but I really enjoy the time spent with my cell mates just casually sharing and learning from one another, and of course, worship the Almighty. It never fails to amaze me to see how God is working in my cell mates' lives week in week out, and how inspiring it is to constantly see how all of us grow in our own intimate ways with Him. Highlight of my week has got to be attending the graduation of Joel, Jaron and Alekx from bible school. Really happy for all of them. What Joel has shared with me throughout his journey in Tung Ling has really opened my beady eyes to how much God can affect one's life. To say God's love is inspiring is truly an understatement.

I can't recall when was the last time Singapore had a week-long of sunshine. As you surely would have already know, recent weeks (or even months) have been filled with nothing but cats and dogs. Not that I'm against the cool and crisp weather, but where has our country's trademark blistering hot weather gone to? Surely, some of us do miss tanning on the beach, swimming at the complex and even having a good evening game of soccer, don't we?

Complains aside, I still really want to thank God that He has kept Singapore safe from all the floods and what not. Everyday on the newspaper we read about a new flash of flood in Australia or a new tornado destroying parts of America. Let us not take this blessed land for granted, alright? Do your part and vote. :)

Therefore, I decided to take my camera out and about to snap a few shots on life around my area on these rainy days. Thanks for viewing! :)

My sis and I decided to give my mom her favourite hobby as a present for her birthday this year. We decided to give her mahjong set (table included!) which she could call her very own. Thus, we got her this...

Yes, your eyes are not playing tricks on you, it is indeed, a 'mahjong set' cake. Without any delay, my sister snapped this cake up online as soon as she saw it. It was meant to be a surprise for my mom, however, like how easily we know 1+1 at the back of our hand, she intuitively knew what her 2 rascals were already up to. Well, there goes the surprise...

Nevertheless, it was still a simple, warm family celebration. And it always brings me immense joy to see my mom as happy, and sometimes goofy, as she can be.

After I smiled and played a little with the children around, she got more comfortable and gave a serious look into the camera, as though hinting that she wants to tour the world one day like the tourists that frequents the stopover.

Being the 13th most populous country in the world, it wasn't hard to find a friendly, smiling face around Vietnam. It was a tad surprising to me to be honest. Before the trip, I already had myself prepared to face ranting old men and loudmouthed old ladies.

But, boy, I couldn't have been more wrong!

Not only were the people that we met friendly and helpful, they were also, in a way, inspiring as well. You should hear how passionate the locals are when they talk about their country. We had this female tour guide at Halong Bay named Tam, and you could just feel how much she wants to see Vietnam prosper. She told us a little bit of the history of this dynamic yet humble country, it's beautiful farming landscape and about the bustling cities.

It is through meeting people like Tam that has inspired me to write a post on Vietnam's beautiful people.

The fastest and most effective mode of transportation around Vietnam (if you're not a tourist) is by motorcycles or (if you are eco-friendly) bicycles. To say that there are countless number of motorcycles and bicycles on the road of Vietnam is seriously an understatement. There are probably more of these 2-wheeled vehicles on the road than there are people on the streets!

There are even people offering taxi services on motorcycles.

In Vietnam, there have these conical-shaped hats which farmers used to wear in the past. However, it is a trademark now in this country, it is not uncommon to spot one on a Vietnamese or even a tourist's head. Women's hats are sharper at the top while the top is a little rounder for the men.

One night in Ho Chi Minh City, we went to a crab restaurant that Jit Hong recommended. And it was goooooood! Food was good, staffs were good, company the best.

We then went to the night market ben tham market for shopping! We got a lot of good deals there! We got shades, the best coffee in Vietnam, shirts, shorts and what not. It was truly a worthwhile experience bargaining with the locals!

After touring Ho Chi Minh City, we took a bus to our 2nd city, Mui Ne. Before reaching our destination, we had a stopover where there were shops selling tidbits and fruits. The sheepish ladies selling fruits were especially nice to us, probably because we bought guavas from them. And one was bold enough to pose for a nice picture.

At Mui Ne, we met this family from Indonesia at our guesthouse and we had a little chat with them. They had these 3 really adorable children that gladly smiled for us.

Our 3rd city was the 'air-con' city of Dalat. No need for fans or air cons in your room, the city is cooled naturally. Regrettably, we only had a short time there as we had to catch an early bus the next morning. However, we enjoyed visiting their night market and the girls even left a little art piece for the children there.

The next day, we took the bus to the beach paradise of Nha Trang. But once again, before that, we had another stopover. And it was my favourite stopover of all. There were these village kids that were hanging around the shops and I was really humbled when I saw them play. They were easily amused by each other's company and you could tell that they are really happy with their simple way of life. What made me reflect on how blessed I am was when I saw them throwing coconuts on the floor and tearing them open with their teeth! It was heartening to photograph and sharing the photos with them. There was one point of time when I was surrounded by a few of them to show them a shot I took. That was a humble moment which I'll remember for sometime.

In Hoi An, our 5th stop, we learnt that Vietnamese are very good at handicrafts. These men made furniture from scratch. From raw wood and the draw and design without any rulers or measuring equipments. All they used were a pencil and their hand. Amazing.

Hoi An is also famous for its tailors. Show them a picture of your favourite shirt, shoes, dresses and what have you, and they'll make it your own in no time.

All in all, our trip to Vietnam has been made unforgettable, largely thanks to its hardworking, passionate, warm people. This certainly will not be our last trip there as we heard from another traveler that there is a little piece of heaven tucked away in Nha Trang.

I want to apologize for this very late entry. Have been busy with a lot of things and I totally overlooked editing these batch of photos! But, better late than never right?

Oh, first I need to warn you that if you are expecting pictures of performances and fireworks, well, you won't get them. Mong and I decided that we wanted to take photos of the atmosphere created by the crowd instead. We wanted to see how lively and ecstatic Singaporeans can get on their birthday. Hope you'll like the pictures!

Got a couple of NDP 2009 tickets from my Mom and decided to go with Mong. This is our first time watching the parade live since a zillion years ago, so naturally, we were expecting a really awesome time. We were not disappointed.

What I love most about Singapore is how we all colorblind. Wait, before you get the wrong idea, what i meant is how Singaporeans, young and old of the myriad of races, treat each other equally and with utmost respect. In the words of our forefathers, we believe we are one people, one nation, one Singapore.

We got there about an hour earlier but look how many people got there before us!

Just got back not too long ago from this beautiful country.Got to travel to the 'less urban' areas like Hualien,Taidong and, i forgot the other city, sorry =) From Ah Zhong Mian Xian to Taipei 101, Taiwan is blessed with spectacular scenery, colourful people ,an unending list of unique,yet delicious street food and of course,for shutterbugs,countless photo opportunities! Here's what i'm talking about.

We also got the chance to visit the Ah Mei Zhu tribe, one of Taiwan's indigenous tribes.Don in colourful costumes and some feathers,they danced and sang in a language which sounded like baby talk,it was a nice performance nevertheless. Enjoyed it =)

During the Taiwan Lantern Festival(臺灣燈會), thousands of sky lanterns light over the township of Pingsi (平溪). Got a mere taste of what the festival is like by lighting up 2(how pathetic) of the lanterns at one of our resorts.It was truely a sight to behold as we lit them ourselves and watch them rose into the heavens.

Taiwan has nice streets! And they look really stunning at night.Imagine,you're standing at one end of the street and the whole stretch in front of you is lined with bright and vivid lights with people walking around and running their errands.Nice

Got to visit the big 101! This remarkable skyscraper looks its best at night.Didn't get to scale to the top though,no time! But I've got to go there on a new year's eve! It's fireworks display is second to none.Taipei 101 received the Emporis Skyscraper Award in 2004. It has been hailed as one of the Seven New Wonders of the World (Newsweek magazine, 2006) and Seven Wonders of Engineering.(Discovery Channel)

Did i mention the Taiwanese? They are probably one of the friendliest bunch of Asians around! Everyone i met,be it stall owners,taxi drivers,waiters and even the policemen were very courteous and welcoming.Last but certainly not least,what's a trip to Taiwan without visiting their night market? In particular,their famous Shilin Market.You name it,they have it.Clothes,accessories,toys,games,souvenirs,displays and,of course,a myriad of delicacies.My favourite part of the whole trip was actually photographing the people and their food!

If you're travelling to Taiwan,just remember to bring your camera =)
